Botanical Ritual

BOTANICAL RITUAL

*

Blooming spirit.

The Violette collection is created exclusively in-house, by hand, with love and thoughtful attention to detail. Our signature flora prints are made using flowers, leaves, roots, nuts, and berries – drawing on their natural pigments to form soft, organic patterns on silk. With many delicate elements in balance, this process takes time and care, ensuring each piece is infused with the graceful, blooming spirit at the heart of the Violette brand.

Alchemy guided by nature’s hand.

Natural dyeing is a slow, intuitive ritual led by the quiet beauty of plants. Our silks are prepared with care, using rainwater collected at our studio and natural mordants – a gentle method that helps botanical pigments bond permanently with the fibres. Petals and blooms, each holding unique pigments shaped by the seasons, are gently laid onto silk and carefully wrapped. The bundles are then simmered or steamed, allowing the dyes to bloom across the silk in delicate, expressive forms. No two pieces are ever the same. We find beauty in the subtle variations, organic markings, and imperfections that emerge through this process. Honouring the transformation of nature into something lasting and meaningful, and trusting the alchemy guided by nature’s hand. After dyeing, we compost spent botanicals back into our flower garden, closing the loop where it began.

Silk, naturally.

We work primarily with mulberry silk for its natural affinity with plant-based dyes. Its protein-rich fibres absorb and retain colour beautifully, forming strong bonds that result in luminous, enduring hues. This natural harmony between silk and flora is what inspires us and forms the foundation of our practice. One of the quiet joys of botanical dyeing is that colours may soften or shift gently over time. We encourage you to embrace this evolution as nature takes it’s course. It is, after all, what makes them so magical.
